Alphabet Flash Cards

Image
English begins with learning the alphabet and flashcards are the best way to teach the alphabet letters to children. I have assembled simple alphabet  🔤  flashcards for young children. These are especially suitable for children with special needs as each flashcard has only one picture so that the children are not overwhelmed by too much information on just one card. Cut  ✂️ chart paper or recycled cardboard in A4 size. Print  🖨️ the ABC flashcards on A4 size papers. Paste the printed copy on the cut chart paper and then, cut each individual flashcard around the dotted line. You will have store-bought quality flashcards 😊! How to Write English Letters

Image
Your child can now recognize the English alphabets, both capital and small. Now, it is time to start writing these letters. However, this can be a daunting task as writing English letters is not the same as drawing a sky with birds flying where you can draw birds in any order, from left to right or from right to left 😊. Each letter of the alphabet has to be drawn in a certain order and this is called letter formation. I am hoping that the following printable chart will help you in teaching your children how to write English letters. This formation order is important and this has to be corrected in the beginning so that the children don't face any difficulty when they have to write more and have to go faster.  Download the high quality, printable PDF format of the chart along with 26 worksheets for practicing writing from here 👇 Download Chart and Worksheets Happy Writing! Time Management in Maths

Image
Why do we even need time management in Maths? Why can't we let our children solve their sums at their own pace? Well, time management is not needed for primary school. So, if grade 2 children are taking too long to solve their sums, it is perfectly fine as it is natural for little kids to be easily distracted or more importantly, the children may not have understood the concept and need help and guidance so that is why they are going slow. Unfortunately, the story changes when children reach grade 5. They may perform very well in their monthly maths tests/evaluations but maths exams will turn into nightmares for them...this is a very, very tricky time. You have to understand that there are very few fields in this world in which maths is not required. You have to get good marks in maths to get into good colleges/universities; in essence, your future career depends on maths (a sad truth for those who don't like maths 😉 ) So, coming back to the topic of time management. How can Maths become your child's favourite subject?

Image
Maths was always easy for me. I do have a vague memory of having trouble in understanding addition when I was in kindergarten. I also remember that my teacher gave me individual attention and explained the concept to me: a bulb lit in my brain and I started understanding everything taught in my class. I guess I was lucky to have excellent maths teachers when I was completely dependent on someone else to explain the concept to me. My love for maths can be testified by the fact that I did my bachelor in Computer Science with a minor in Mathematics. I assumed automatically that my children will inherit my love. Alas! I was in for a surprise. My world came crashing down when my firstborn told me that he hated maths. He was in grade 2 when he uttered these words to shatter me to my mathematics core! It was time for some drastic measures. I didn't want him to "unhate" maths just to satisfy my innate desire for him to love the same thing that I loved. It was because I knew how d

Types of numbers

Image
There are three types of numbers: Cardinal Numbers : Cardinal numbers tell us the quantity of something. For e.g five eggs, six cats, etc. Cardinal numbers basically tell us "how many?" There are two carrots in the picture. Two is a cardinal number as it tells us the quantity of carrots. You can also say "2 carrots" instead of "two carrots" . Both " 2 " and " two " represent cardinal numbers here. Similarly, t here are four dragons in the picture. Four is a cardinal number as it tells us the quantity of dragons. You can also say "4 dragons" instead of "four dragons" . Both " 4 " and " four " represent cardinal numbers here. Ordinal : Ordinal numbers tell us the position of something. For e.g. first, second, third, etc. Ordinal number is basically the " ord er of things". This is a picture of a queue in front of the ATM machine where every person in the line has a position

Creative Writing for Children (Insects)

Image
You shouldn't expect children to suddenly start writing amazing content. First, you need to provide them with enough information 📖 . All children are obsessed with insects 🦗 and arachnids 🦂 so why not start with them first? I have compiled some interesting information about many intriguing insects and arachnids. This information is simple but exciting and can be easily absorbed by little minds. Read it with your children and then, ask them to write on the provided worksheets. You will be amazed by the amount of interest they will show in this exercise 😊🚀 I believe that every writing piece about any type of animal should answer the following questions: It should start with an important fact about the animal. It should tell what the animal looks like. It should tell where the animal lives. It should tell what the animal eats. It should end with an interesting fact about the animal or the writer's own feelings towards the animal 😊 I have provided questions in the worksheets

How to Make your Children Speak English Fluently

Image
You can use the following steps that I have used successfully with my children: 1. Try to speak more and more English with your children. At least, one parent should only speak in English with them. 2. Get your children books and read with them every night before bedtime. Make it a habit. For age-appropriate free ebooks, check out this site: https://home.oxfordowl.co.uk/books/free-ebooks/ Another great collection of books for young readers is the Magic Tree House Series by Mary Pope Osborne . It is an amazing transition from Oxford Reading Tree books to chapter books. https://www.goodreads.com/series/41463-magic-tree-house . Some children are not interested in Magic Tree House books. You can try giving them Roald Dahl books like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, James, and the Giant Peach , etc. Other great classic chapter books for early readers are the Secret Seven series, the Faraway Tree series, and the Wishing Chair series by Enid Blyton . 3.
