Jolly Phonics Group 5 Worksheets

Image
Hello friends, Yes, it took longer than expected to make my Jolly Phonics Group 5 worksheets. I was busy with some personal issues and lost track of time. I have promised myself to manage my time more efficiently from now onwards and I will be more diligent in making my worksheets. So, this is group 5 which covers 3 letter sounds and the two forms of /oo/ sounds i.e. short and long. The short sound is how /oo/ sounds in the word 'book' and the long /oo/ sound is how it sounds in words like ' moon ' . We also have our first digraph i.e. /ng/  (a digraph is a combination of two letters representing one sound). There is only one sound made by ng when we say the word 'long' . Actually, /wh/ is also a digraph as it makes the same sound as /w/. The following image shows the seven groups of Jolly Phonics along with an extra group (alternate spellings) taught by my Phonics app on Google Play Store. Phonics Fun is my android app available for free on Google Play Store...

Short Vowel Sounds for Kids

Image
Hello friends, As most of you know by now I am a great fan of the synthetic phonics system of Jolly Phonics. When my elder son was 3 years old, he was introduced to Jolly Phonics. It was a completely new thing for me as I belong to the generation that learned to read by memorizing that A is for apple and B is for B. We were never taught the sounds of the alphabet. We learned their names. I guess our brains just added the missing link of sounds on their own. A huge thanks to the people behind the Jolly Phonics and other synthetic phonics systems. Instead of second-guessing the sounds of the alphabet on their own, children now learn the sounds first and then, the names of the alphabet. I got inspiration from my son's education to develop my first mobile app.  Check out  my free Jolly Phonics Mobile App . It is an all-in-one solution to everything related to phonics. The complete version is 100% FREE. Phonics has become the starting point of learning to read in almost all countr...

Phonics Fun Activities - Find the Word

Image
Hello, Phonics is the starting point of learning to read. Children learn the sounds of letters and can recognize that the letter 'a' makes the sound /a/ - the beginning sound that our mouth makes when we say the word  apple .  I personally really like the Jolly Phonics system of synthetic phonics as it has divided the English alphabets into groups in order of difficulty. For example, group 1 has the letters s, a, t, i, p, n. These letters are not just easy to learn but they also make the most 3-lettered words so that children can start to blend sounds and read 3-lettered words as soon as they know the group 1 sounds. However, any kind of learning requires patience. I recommend that children spend at least a week on one letter before moving on to another letter. Moreover, make the learning of phonics fun using my Jolly Phonics Fun app . Children can not only learn phonics sounds but test their learning using multiple matching activities. You can download my app from here: I ...

Women's Day for Children - Reading Comprehension worksheets

Image
Happy Women's Day 2022! If we turn the pages of history, we will find many great women who have made a huge impact on the world of Science, Mathematics, Nursing, Philosophy, Astronomy, to name a few. While studying about these subjects, these great women sometimes don't get the acknowledgment that they deserve and International Women's Day is one day when our children should read about these great women and their marvelous work. I have covered three great women in these reading comprehension worksheets: Florence Nightingale: One of the greatest women in the world of nursing, Florence Nightingale was born in a wealthy family. She didn't have to work but she devoted her life to caring for her patients and had the courage to take care of wounded soldiers. She was so concerned about the welfare of her patients that she used to go out at night to help her patients.  Marie Curie: From the world of physics, we have Marie Curie who was a woman unsuited for her world as she wa...

Brain Boosting Activities for Kids: Mazes

Image
Hello friends, I have been doing a lot of maths and reading comprehension worksheets lately but haven't done any brain-boosting activities for a long time. Hence, I thought that I should make some worksheets that have no reading or writing in them but pure fun. When it comes to brain-boosting activities that are also quite fun, mazes are the first thing that comes to my mind.  🧠 💡 🧠 💡 🧠 💡 🧠 💡 Why is maze solving a brain-boosting activity? Why is maze solving a brain-boosting activity? 🟢 Mazes improve the cognitive skills of children. 🟢 When a maze puzzle is placed in front of children, it boosts their brain by making them think, reason, and remember. 🟢 They have to first understand the puzzle, work out a way ✏️ while remembering the dead ends. It makes them focus 👀 and sharpens their memory; Mazes are amazing for stimulating the brains inside the little heads of our children. 🟢 In today's world, children are too much dependent on screens and it is dulling their...

Read and Write about Spring for Kids

Image
Hello friends, While it is still snowing in some parts of the world, other parts have started showing signs of ice thawing and winter waning. The lemon trees in my garden are sprouting new leaves so I thought that it is a good time to tackle some spring topics. When I thought about spring, the first things that came to my mind were the ladybugs and the pretty Japanese Sakura blossoms but then I started thinking more and added a few more spring-related topics. So, here I am with my six spring reading comprehension worksheets. I have kept the English simple but have tried to add interesting information about all the spring topics so that the children enjoy reading these short passages. A few questions are at the end of each passage to test children's comprehension. I hope you like my effort. Don't forget to share and like if you like my work as it encourages me to be more creative and unique in my work. Happy spring reading while I go now to do some spring cleaning. 😁 All my w...
