Women's Day for Children - Reading Comprehension worksheets

Image
Happy Women's Day 2022! If we turn the pages of history, we will find many great women who have made a huge impact on the world of Science, Mathematics, Nursing, Philosophy, Astronomy, to name a few. While studying about these subjects, these great women sometimes don't get the acknowledgment that they deserve and International Women's Day is one day when our children should read about these great women and their marvelous work. I have covered three great women in these reading comprehension worksheets: Florence Nightingale: One of the greatest women in the world of nursing, Florence Nightingale was born in a wealthy family. She didn't have to work but she devoted her life to caring for her patients and had the courage to take care of wounded soldiers. She was so concerned about the welfare of her patients that she used to go out at night to help her patients.  Marie Curie: From the world of physics, we have Marie Curie who was a woman unsuited for her world as she wa...

Read and Write about Spring for Kids

Image
Hello friends, While it is still snowing in some parts of the world, other parts have started showing signs of ice thawing and winter waning. The lemon trees in my garden are sprouting new leaves so I thought that it is a good time to tackle some spring topics. When I thought about spring, the first things that came to my mind were the ladybugs and the pretty Japanese Sakura blossoms but then I started thinking more and added a few more spring-related topics. So, here I am with my six spring reading comprehension worksheets. I have kept the English simple but have tried to add interesting information about all the spring topics so that the children enjoy reading these short passages. A few questions are at the end of each passage to test children's comprehension. I hope you like my effort. Don't forget to share and like if you like my work as it encourages me to be more creative and unique in my work. Happy spring reading while I go now to do some spring cleaning. 😁 All my w...

Read and Write about Harry Potter

Image
Hello Friends, It has been a pretty long time since I did some read and write worksheets; the last I did were the Summer worksheets. If you missed those, have a look here . Now, I am here with something that is very, very close to my heart. I was in my junior year at my university when I read my first Harry Potter book. I fell in love with the wizarding world imagined by J. K Rowling. Today's children are super lucky as all the books are out and they can read them whenever they want. We had to wait  😔  for the next book to come out and it wasn't easy waiting. In any case, I loved everything HP (Harry Potter). So, when my elder one started reading books, I just couldn't wait to see him read Harry Potter. To my utter disappointment, he wasn't interested. HE WASN'T INTERESTED IN HARRY POTTER! Imagine my feelings 😔! One day, I coaxed him to read the first book. I promised him sweets and other goodies 😃. He gave me a tough time reading the first chapters but soon he ...

Read and Write about Summers

Image
Hello friends, The summer season is at its peak in the Northern Hemisphere. In tropical regions, it is raining frequently. Children are home from school and it is a good time to polish their reading comprehension skills. Hence, I decided to make these read-and-write worksheets on the topic of summer-related things. I hope your children will have fun reading these simple, short passages and then, answering questions. These worksheets are perfect for grade 1-2 aged children. I am giving a high-quality PDF file link below. Just download PDF, print on A4 size, and use the worksheets with your students or children. If you like doing worksheets with your children, then as a parent I would personally recommend purchasing an inktank printer such as  HP Smart -Tank 6001  Wireless Cartridge-Free all-in-one printer. There are no cartridges just ink bottles and believe me, we have been using the printer constantly for the last 3 years with no refills. I am in love with how economical and...

Materials For Kids

Image
Before children start studying the subject of Chemistry revolving around elements with their atoms and compound with their molecules, they have to learn that everything is made of a material. A chair is made of wood, a house is made of bricks and a milk bottle is made of glass. They also have to be taught that all materials have one or more properties or super powers. Spiderman can shoot webs, Superman can fly, and a material called plastic is waterproof. It has the superpower that it isn't harmed by water 😁 It was raining    🌧️   one day and while using an umbrella  ☂️ , my child was inquisitive that why is the umbrella waterproof as it seemed to be made of cloth. So, I started explaining to him about nylon and made-made materials, and then, we had an entertaining discussion on materials and their properties; this gave me the idea of making material worksheets. Now, this is not just a Science topic. This is also a very nice way of building vocabulary . I hope yo...

All About Teeth

Image
I am obsessed with my children's teeth. I guess the reason is that I suffer from a multitude of dental problems and they all developed when I was around 10-11 years old. I am paying the price for neglecting my teeth during that crucial time. When I was young, there was obviously no internet and access to so much information. All our education used to come from books, teachers, and parents. Yes, my mother used to tell me to brush my teeth but I used to ignore her at times due to my laziness. Bad mistake! Sometimes I wish I had a time machine 😆 In any case, while warning my children about brushing their teeth and giving them examples of the problems in my own teeth, I realized that I need to make some worksheets about teeth. Did you know that teeth are the only parts of the body that don't repair themselves? I am sure that children don't know this! They usually study about brain, heart, skeleton, and muscles when doing science but the teeth are ignored 😞. Teeth shouldn...

Natural Disasters for Kids

Image
It is so difficult to find good reading material for children nowadays. If it is too simple, it may bore the children. If it is on a complicated topic, then the children may find it a difficult read. If you have been following my website and my Facebook page, you would know that reading comprehension is a subject close to my heart. I like flashcards too but the space is limited in a flashcard and it is a struggle to explain all the important points of a subject in just a teeny weeny flashcard 😀. This doesn't mean that I don't believe in the power of flashcards. They are an excellent way of building vocabulary as a picture is better than a thousand words! Having said that, flashcards limit the quantity of information.  So, I started looking for another interesting topic for reading for the students and children of my dear followers. I didn't have to look far when I saw my 7 yrs old son drawing a meteor  ☄️️ . Unfortunately, he didn't color it. He is more into drawing w...

Read and write about monsters: Special Edition for Halloween

Image
Halloween is not a new holiday. People have been celebrating Halloween for 2000 years now. Nowadays, children dress up as their favorite monsters but in medieval times, older people also used to dress up, and instead of candies, they used to ask for money! In modern times, as October begins, people decorate their front yards with Halloween decorations. Fake tombstones, lit-up pumpkins, and other scary decorations become a common sight. Speaking of decorations, I found this very cute Halloween decoration idea that you can work on with your children: Suncatchers. There is something magical about sun catchers and the ones that I found are Halloween-themed so perfect for this time of the year:  (ad) Halloween celebrations are not just restricted to Europe and North America. It is now becoming quite common to have costume parties on Halloween in other countries too. Since children love to dress up for Halloween, I felt that reading and writing about their favorite monsters may just be...

Read and Write about Superheroes

Image
Hello friends, Superheroes 🦸 have fascinated children for many, many years since comic books came into the market for the first time. The brightly colored comic books with short, exciting dialogues attract not just children but many adults too. Many of the old comic books have become collector's items, i.e., very rare and expensive. With the advent of superhero movies, the fascination has reached new heights. More recently, with the advancement in special effects using computers, movies such as Iron Man, Justice League, and Avengers have enthralled adults and children alike with their nail-biting action and exhilarating stories. Children, especially boys, love to talk about their favorite superheroes. They also like dressing up as superheroes. So why not use cool facts about their favorite superheroes 🦸 as a reading comprehension exercise. This is the perfect way to make little kids write: Ask them to read and write about something that they like!  I have assembled these cute ...
