Read and Write about Spring for Kids

Image
Hello friends, While it is still snowing in some parts of the world, other parts have started showing signs of ice thawing and winter waning. The lemon trees in my garden are sprouting new leaves so I thought that it is a good time to tackle some spring topics. When I thought about spring, the first things that came to my mind were the ladybugs and the pretty Japanese Sakura blossoms but then I started thinking more and added a few more spring-related topics. So, here I am with my six spring reading comprehension worksheets. I have kept the English simple but have tried to add interesting information about all the spring topics so that the children enjoy reading these short passages. A few questions are at the end of each passage to test children's comprehension. I hope you like my effort. Don't forget to share and like if you like my work as it encourages me to be more creative and unique in my work. Happy spring reading while I go now to do some spring cleaning. 😁 All my w...

Read and Write about Harry Potter

Image
Hello Friends, It has been a pretty long time since I did some read and write worksheets; the last I did were the Summer worksheets. If you missed those, have a look here . Now, I am here with something that is very, very close to my heart. I was in my junior year at my university when I read my first Harry Potter book. I fell in love with the wizarding world imagined by J. K Rowling. Today's children are super lucky as all the books are out and they can read them whenever they want. We had to wait  😔  for the next book to come out and it wasn't easy waiting. In any case, I loved everything HP (Harry Potter). So, when my elder one started reading books, I just couldn't wait to see him read Harry Potter. To my utter disappointment, he wasn't interested. HE WASN'T INTERESTED IN HARRY POTTER! Imagine my feelings 😔! One day, I coaxed him to read the first book. I promised him sweets and other goodies 😃. He gave me a tough time reading the first chapters but soon he ...

Read and Write about Summers

Image
Hello friends, The summer season is at its peak in the Northern Hemisphere. In tropical regions, it is raining frequently. Children are home from school and it is a good time to polish their reading comprehension skills. Hence, I decided to make these read-and-write worksheets on the topic of summer-related things. I hope your children will have fun reading these simple, short passages and then, answering questions. These worksheets are perfect for grade 1-2 aged children. I am giving a high-quality PDF file link below. Just download PDF, print on A4 size, and use the worksheets with your students or children. If you like doing worksheets with your children, then as a parent I would personally recommend purchasing an inktank printer such as  HP Smart -Tank 6001  Wireless Cartridge-Free all-in-one printer. There are no cartridges just ink bottles and believe me, we have been using the printer constantly for the last 3 years with no refills. I am in love with how economical and...

Animal Flash Cards for Kids

Image
One day, I was watching Animal Planet on the cable with my children. I realized that although children know the names of many animals, they don't know how to write about them correctly. When a preschooler writes about an animal, he/she focuses on the number of legs, color, and diet of an animal but older children need to describe it in more detail. There is a certain vocabulary required to describe an animal. Also, children tend to know more about farm animals but not that much about wild animals. Another thing is that there are some unique animals like beavers that need to be introduced to children. This is my small attempt to fill this gap in children's knowledge. Frankly speaking, I wouldn't call it a small effort as it took me 2-3 days to complete this project 😄. The reason for this is that I wanted to simplify the language used so that it is easy for children all over the world and not just native English speakers. My philosophy for writing about animals is very simp...

Read and write about monsters: Special Edition for Halloween

Image
Halloween is not a new holiday. People have been celebrating Halloween for 2000 years now. Nowadays, children dress up as their favorite monsters but in medieval times, older people also used to dress up, and instead of candies, they used to ask for money! In modern times, as October begins, people decorate their front yards with Halloween decorations. Fake tombstones, lit-up pumpkins, and other scary decorations become a common sight. Speaking of decorations, I found this very cute Halloween decoration idea that you can work on with your children: Suncatchers. There is something magical about sun catchers and the ones that I found are Halloween-themed so perfect for this time of the year:  (ad) Halloween celebrations are not just restricted to Europe and North America. It is now becoming quite common to have costume parties on Halloween in other countries too. Since children love to dress up for Halloween, I felt that reading and writing about their favorite monsters may just be...

Read and Write about Superheroes

Image
Hello friends, Superheroes 🦸 have fascinated children for many, many years since comic books came into the market for the first time. The brightly colored comic books with short, exciting dialogues attract not just children but many adults too. Many of the old comic books have become collector's items, i.e., very rare and expensive. With the advent of superhero movies, the fascination has reached new heights. More recently, with the advancement in special effects using computers, movies such as Iron Man, Justice League, and Avengers have enthralled adults and children alike with their nail-biting action and exhilarating stories. Children, especially boys, love to talk about their favorite superheroes. They also like dressing up as superheroes. So why not use cool facts about their favorite superheroes 🦸 as a reading comprehension exercise. This is the perfect way to make little kids write: Ask them to read and write about something that they like!  I have assembled these cute ...

Creative Writing for Children (Insects)

Image
You shouldn't expect children to suddenly start writing amazing content. First, you need to provide them with enough information 📖 . All children are obsessed with insects 🦗 and arachnids 🦂 so why not start with them first? I have compiled some interesting information about many intriguing insects and arachnids. This information is simple but exciting and can be easily absorbed by little minds. Read it with your children and then, ask them to write on the provided worksheets. You will be amazed by the amount of interest they will show in this exercise 😊🚀 I believe that every writing piece about any type of animal should answer the following questions: It should start with an important fact about the animal. It should tell what the animal looks like. It should tell where the animal lives. It should tell what the animal eats. It should end with an interesting fact about the animal or the writer's own feelings towards the animal 😊 I have provided questions in the worksheets...

How to develop children's interest in CREATIVE WRITING?

Image
Hello friends, The next step after learning to read is learning to write. However, writing is another level. A child has to think and imagine and put his imagination into words. The words might not come easily to him/her. Hence, a parent or a teacher has to make this journey easier. They have to think of innovative ideas to spark the creative writing abilities in children. The following is a wonderful way to help you: parents and teachers on this journey. I think you will enjoy the sentences coming out of the little minds once they are writing in animal-shaped  or cloud-shaped books. Steps to spark the creative writing talent in children: Add crafting and make the creative writing journey colorful and more fascinating 🙂 Make a cloud-shaped book with your children's help and ask them to write sentences about the sky in it. Why stop at a cloud-shaped book? Download my PDF for good quality, symmetrical pictures of bear, tiger, sun, etc. to make books. Children love animals...
