Women's Day for Children - Reading Comprehension worksheets
Happy Women's Day 2022!
If we turn the pages of history, we will find many great women who have made a huge impact on the world of Science, Mathematics, Nursing, Philosophy, Astronomy, to name a few. While studying about these subjects, these great women sometimes don't get the acknowledgment that they deserve and International Women's Day is one day when our children should read about these great women and their marvelous work.
I have covered three great women in these reading comprehension worksheets:
Florence Nightingale:
One of the greatest women in the world of nursing, Florence Nightingale was born in a wealthy family. She didn't have to work but she devoted her life to caring for her patients and had the courage to take care of wounded soldiers. She was so concerned about the welfare of her patients that she used to go out at night to help her patients.
Marie Curie:
From the world of physics, we have Marie Curie who was a woman unsuited for her world as she was born in a time when women weren't even allowed in universities in her native country, Poland. She moved to Paris to study. She discovered two new elements with her husband and named them "Polonium" and "Radium". She is the first woman in the world to get a Nobel Prize!
Ada Lovelace:
Did you know that the world's first programmer was actually a woman? Isn't this an amazing fact to be learned by your children? Yes! Ada Lovelace was the world's first computer programmer.
Read about these amazing women with your children and answer some comprehension questions at the end! A win-win situation!
