Jolly Phonics Group 6 Worksheets

Hello friends,

As you know I have already published many worksheets on phonics along with my Phonics Fun app but while making my worksheets for Group 6, I thought that today, I should talk again about phonics and how productive they are in helping your children/students read.

What is Phonics?
Phonics is a method of teaching children to read by connecting the sounds of spoken language with letters or groups of letters that represent those sounds. Phonics focuses on the relationship between letters and sounds, and how they work together to form words. By learning to identify the sounds that letters make, children can read and spell words more accurately.

Why is Phonics Important?
Phonics is an essential foundation for reading and writing. It helps children to develop the skills they need to decode words and understand how language works. By learning phonics, children will become more confident readers and writers, which will help them succeed in school and in life.

How to Teach Phonics to Kids?
There are various methods for teaching phonics to kids, but I am personally inclined towards the system of Jolly Phonics. They have associated letter sounds with actions but I really like their order of teaching. For example, they teach the sounds of the letters s, a, t, i, p, and n first. These letters make the most 2 and 3-lettered words so children can start blending and reading words like it, sit, pan, mat, etc. very early.

So, how to help your children learn phonics or facilitate and reinforce their learning in school?

Start with the basics:
Teach your child the names of the letters and the sounds they make. This will help them recognize the letters in words and understand how they are pronounced. Use flashcards or my phonics app for this purpose and test their learning by using the same app or my worksheets. I have also published phonics flashcards that can be easily printed, cut, and used. Have a look at them here.

The following image shows the seven groups of Jolly Phonics along with an extra group (alternate spellings) taught by my Phonics app on Google Play Store.

Phonics Fun is my Android app available for free on the Google Play Store. The entire version is completely free. It has all 42 sounds of jolly phonics along with cute pictures. The children can practice their learning by playing 16 levels of matching games! So, it is definitely a fun way of practicing phonics.

Start blending:
Once the children have learned at least one group of phonics sounds, you should practice blending or merging. Blending takes time so patience is essential. Here the following tip will help.
Read aloud:
Read to your child regularly and encourage them to read aloud. When you will decode colorful, vibrant books in front of them, they will be encouraged to blend and read too. This will help them develop their phonics skills and improve their reading fluency.
Practice, practice, practice:
Phonics is a skill that takes time and practice to master. Encourage your child to practice their phonics skills every day.

If you like doing worksheets with your children, then as a parent I would personally recommend purchasing an inktank printer such as Canon's megatank printer. I am in love with how economical and efficient these new ink tank printers are; the printer has made my life so much easier as I don't have to rush to the market to get printouts and the printer doesn't even require frequent refills: a win-win situation! The following printer is available on Amazon so just click here to purchase it from the comfort of your home and get it delivered to your home easily and conveniently.

Phonics is a fundamental skill that every child needs to learn. By teaching phonics to your child, you'll help them become confident readers and writers. Use the tips above to get started and have fun!
Use this tutorial to turn my phonics flashcards printables into quite sturdy and waterproof store-bought quality flashcards without even using lamination.

Now, coming back to my Phonics Group 6 worksheets: They follow the same pattern as my previous Jolly Phonics worksheets. There are matching, coloring, writing, and blending activities.  Group 6 covers the sounds: y, x, sh, ch, Hard th, and soft th. Hard th sound is a voiced sound that comes in words like leather, father, then, the, mother, etc. Soft th is a voiceless sound that comes in words like thumb, three, moth, etc.
