Teaching Kids About Human Rights: Why It Matters

Hello friends,

As an educator, teaching kids about human rights is one of the most important lessons we can offer. Children as young as six or seven can begin to understand basic concepts like fairness, kindness, and inclusion, which are at the heart of human rights. With International Human Rights Day celebrated every year on December 10th, it’s the perfect opportunity to introduce these values in a way that’s age-appropriate and meaningful.

By the way, check out this cute T-shirt on Amazon for spreading human rights awareness among your children.

Human rights aren’t just abstract ideas—they’re about ensuring everyone has what they need to grow and thrive. For kids, this means understanding their right to play, clean water, education, and inclusion. It’s also about recognizing how they can help others, whether it’s by sharing, being kind, or taking small actions to improve their communities.

To make these lessons fun and engaging, I’ve created a Human Rights Worksheets Pack (12 Worksheets) specifically designed for grade 1 but can be used by grade 2 children too. These worksheets include:

  • Short reading comprehension passages for kids, covering key topics like the right to food, safety, and education.
  • Interactive activities such as vocabulary-building worksheets for kids and matching exercises that encourage active learning.
  • Beautiful illustrations that help make complex ideas relatable and enjoyable for young learners.

If you like doing worksheets with your children, then as a parent I would personally recommend purchasing an ink tank printer such as HP Smart-Tank 6001 Wireless Cartridge-Free all-in-one printer. There are no cartridges just ink bottles and believe me, we have been using the printer constantly for the last 3 years with no refills.

I am in love with how economical and efficient these new ink tank printers are; the printer has made my life so much easier as I don't have to rush to the market to get printouts and the printer doesn't even require refills (for at least 2 years): a win-win situation! The following printer is available on Amazon so just click here to purchase it from the comfort of your home and get it delivered to your home easily and conveniently.

Coming back to the human rights worksheets for kids, for those looking to try it out, I also offer a FREE sample pack that includes 5 worksheets:

  • A human rights vocabulary worksheet with a word bank.
  • A fun activity about helping others, featuring matching smiley and sad faces.
  • Three reading comprehension worksheets for kids focusing on the right to play, inclusion, and clean water.

These worksheets for kids are perfect for classroom learning, homeschooling, or celebrating International Human Rights Day. They help children build essential reading and comprehension skills while learning the importance of fairness, kindness, and empathy.
